TLT SPORTS BETTING SCHOOL
BANKROLL MANAGEMENT 101 - PART III
Conservative Betting: This style involves betting smaller percentages of your bankroll, typically around 1-2%.
For example, with a $1000 bankroll, a conservative bet would be $10-$20.
This approach minimizes risk and extends the longevity of your bankroll, suitable for beginners or those with a low-risk tolerance.
Aggressive Betting: In contrast, aggressive betting might involve wagering 3-5% of your bankroll per bet.
For a $1000 bankroll, this means betting $30-$50 per wager.
This style can lead to higher returns but also comes with a greater risk of significant losses.
It's generally suited for experienced bettors with a deeper understanding of the risks involved.
Risk Assessment and Management: This involves evaluating the risk level of each bet and adjusting your bet size accordingly.
For instance, you might bet only 1% of your bankroll on high-risk bets but up to 5% on bets where you feel more confident.
The key is to never exceed a set maximum percentage of your bankroll (e.g., 5%) to avoid catastrophic losses.
Adjusting Bet Sizing According to Confidence Level: If you're highly confident in a particular bet, you might wager a higher percentage of your bankroll, but still within your risk management limits.
For example, for a bet you're confident in, you might bet 4% of your $1000 bankroll, i.e., $40, instead of the standard 2%.
Adjusting Bet Sizing According to Odds: The odds can also dictate your bet size.
For lower odds (favorites), you might bet a higher amount since the likelihood of winning is higher.
Conversely, for higher odds (underdogs), you might reduce your bet size due to the increased risk. For example, bet 3% on a favorite and only 1% on an underdog.
You also have to remember, underdogs require less money to win a unit v. a favorite requires one to lay more down to win a unit
Example: +200 bet, requires 0.5 a unit to win 1 unit v. a -200 bet requires 2 units to win 1 unit
These points illustrate the importance of balancing risk and reward in sports betting and emphasize the need for a disciplined approach to bankroll management tailored to individual betting styles and risk tolerances
